Supermarkets cancel and delay food deliveries due to ice and snow

Supermarkets across the UK have cancelled and delayed grocery deliveries due to the overnight snow falling across parts of the country.

The Met Office issued several yellow severe weather alerts due to the wintry conditions.

This has affected deliveries across the UK, with some supermarkets delaying and even cancelling orders due to the weather.

As a result, many customers have taken to social media to express their anger and disappointment in having their orders being cancelled.

One Ocado customer tweeted that they were informed by their driver that they could not make the delivery, and questioned how to reschedule it.

Another customer asked the online-only grocer whether or not their delivery was coming after being delayed.

One Tesco customer added that it is the “second time in a row” the Big 4 grocer has “failed to show up for a home delivery.”

He said: “Fair enough there is snow this time but it’s not a good record considering you make us pick a slot and pay for delivery and give no heads up about it”

Another Tesco customer tweeted after waiting four hours for no delivery.

“No delivery two hours late. No news on where it is. I will not be opening the door past midnight,” one Asda customer took to social media to express their anger.

Another customer expressed her “disappointment” at the grocer’s “unreliable service”.

Grocery Gazette has contacted the UK supermarkets for comment.

  • I’m a delivery deriver. We got stuck after our first two deliveries yesterday and had to wait 6 hours to be “rescued” by a pick up truck. We were luck, we weren’t hurt. We do as much as we can to help customers but if we are stuck there is little we can do.

    • You can notify customers so they know what’s going on and aren’t left waiting for a delivery that won’t be made.

      • I am also delivery driver. I called 25 customers, 6 answered their phones, all were left messages….if they’re phone numbers were relevant. If all the messages left, 8 customers complained to customer services, after not receiving their deliveries. Not every driver calls every customer, but the majority do. But perhaps looking out the window and thinking, “I’m not going to chance going out in this” may be a reason it’s late. And at least we aren’t on strike!
