Nisa boss vows to do ‘as much as he can’ to support retailers

Nisa’s new managing director, Peter Batt, has pledged to do “as much as he can” to support retailers as the ongoing cost-of-living crisis continues to bite.

According to Batt, who took on the position as managing director of Nisa just eight weeks ago, the UK is going into the “most challenging 18 months of the last decade” due to the cost-of-living crisis.

In a video, he said: “After eight weeks in the role I want to give some initial thoughts. We’re going to listen going into 2023 and beyond.

“We are going into the most challenging 18 months of the last decade. We all understand the cost of living crisis and I’m going to keep listening to you all to demonstrate we will do as much as we can to support you.”

He also mentioned the challenges Nisa retailers face around rebates, surcharges and the fuel levy applied to each delivery into stores, also making reference to the recent £5 million investment designed to improve price inconsistencies between Co-op own label in Nisa and Co-op stores.

Earlier this month, Nisa announced it was increased the prices across 52 of its 330 core Co-op own label lines recommended to retailers.

RRP across all affected lines in Nisa stores increased from a combined £145.17 to £159.94, however, in Co-op stores, the price changes equalled to £152.57 compared to a previous £138.82.

“At Stoneleigh, we announced new pricing guardrails applicable to all Co-op own-brand products,” Nisa commercial director Ayaz Alam said.

“These guardrails ensure that the RRPs we recommend are indexed against recent Co-op retail RSPs to help you ensure you remain competitive versus Co-op retail stores.

Nisa declined to provide further comment.
