Foodbanks across Coventry have had their stocks boosted following donations received from Nisa’s annual trade show.
The food, with a value of almost £8,000, has now been distributed across Coventry at 14 foodbank centres.
With the fresh produce weighing in at a total 4,000 kilos, enough to feed 500 people, the donations were collected after the wholesaler’s event ended in Surrey at the end of September.
Nisa has an ongoing collaboration with The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network as part of its food waste initiative, which sees large quantities of surplus stock collected by volunteers to help families struggling amid the cost-of-living crisis.
“This year’s collection from the Nisa Expo has proved invaluable to us at foodbanks and the Coventry community hubs, as we tackle the current cost of living squeeze,” Coventry Foodbank staff member, Hugh Mcneill said.
“On behalf of Coventry Foodbank and the Feeding Coventry Network, we would like to thank Nisa for their incredible support again this year. It really does make a difference.”
Event manager at Nisa Retail, Jenny Potts added: “We are always delighted to see Hugh and the volunteers at the end of the Nisa Expo and to make our contribution to the brilliant work they do to tackle food poverty in local communities.”
The news comes as Nisa has unveiled range of deals this month as part of its Fill Your Basket campaign, which aims to help shoppers combat the cost-of-living crisis.
