Tesco has resolved a website glitch that saw hundreds of shoppers reporting issues while placing online grocery orders.

Some shoppers took to social media to complain about the problems, which saw basic items such as bread and milk marked as unavailable on the supermarket giant’s app and website.

In certain cases, shoppers said that more than 20 products were being affected by the glitch, The Guardian reported.

Online platform Downdetector, which provides users with real-time information about the status of websites, first saw problems reported at 9:10am yesterday (19 February) and hit a peak of 252 reports just before 3pm.

However, the issues were resolved by 5pm and a Tesco spokesperson said: “We have fixed an issue that prevented some customers adding items to their online shopping baskets earlier today.

“All customers can now update their baskets as normal. We are really sorry for the inconvenience.”

The news comes as Tesco has launched a new 24-hour, 365 day-manned security hub, marking the latest step in its crackdown on rising shoplifting and retail crime.

The grocer has opened the new facility at its recently refurbished security centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire, with staff tasked with analysing thousands of hours of CCTV footage.
