Asda has resolved a “technical issue” with tills in some stores this morning (30 September), which left shoppers unable to purchase their groceries.
Some Asda stores across the country were forced to open later than usual after checkouts stopped working, Mail Online reported.
One X (formerly known as Twitter) user wrote: “Just got back from my usual Monday morning trip to Asda – soaked to the skin, and with no shopping. Their useless new till system that has never worked properly at my local branch is down and the store cannot open.”

Another claimed that due to the issues, they had been “turned away” when trying to do a “big shop” at their local store.
However, an Asda spokesperson has since said: “Some of our stores opened later than planned this morning due to a technical issue affecting checkouts. This has now been resolved and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused.”
It comes as the supermarket pushes ahead with its Project Future transformation, which it has termed Europe’s largest systems implementation programme, and involves the separation of more than 2,500 systems from its former owner Walmart.
The supermarket believes the changes will give it “the best systems in the grocery sector”.
Last week, Asda said it would focus on converting smaller stores to its new IT systems for the remainder of the year to avoid disruption over the busy Christmas period.
It will convert the systems in around 850 smaller sites, including petrol station sites, smaller supermarkets and Asda Express convenience stores, by the end of 2024.
