Tesco Whoosh delivery service expands to 500 stores

Tesco has placed convenience at the heart of its growth with its 60 minute delivery service ‘Tesco Whoosh’ expanding from 50 stores in the first half to over 200 stores by the end of the year.

The delivery service passed its initial trials, and currently offers customers over 1,700 products which includes fresh food. Its delivery slots also run daily from 7am to 10pm.

The Big 4 grocer also revealed it plans to expand Whoosh to 600 stores over the next year.

Additionally, Tesco launched a pilot with Gorillas in its Thornton Heath store in London which offered rapid deliveries within 10 minutes for over 2,000 products.

The move to convenience has also seen the retailer adapt 89 Tesco Metro’s to Express and the opening of 40 new Express stores.

On top of this, Tesco has also added 102 new Click & Collect sites and opened three more Urban Fulfilment centres, with pick rates around four times higher then store-based picking.

The news comes as Tesco revealed its pre-tax profits have tripled to £2.03 billion as the UK’s largest supermarket warns of “significant uncertainties”.
