Cathedral City has launched new flexible recyclable packaging for its pre-grated cheese products.

Designed by global packaging company Amcor in partnership with Saputo Dairy UK, the packs have been created in accordance with Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging guidelines and are certified recyclable by cyclos HTP.

As a result, customers can now recycle the packaging with bags at large supermarkets or via the TerraCycle Cheese Packaging Recycling Programme.

The change, which has been awarded ‘Flexible Plastic Pack of the Year’ at the UK Packaging Awards 2023, will also provide a 47% reduction in carbon footprint compared to the previous packs.

Saputo Dairy packaging controller, Neil Richards, said: “The switch to the new recycle-ready packaging marks a significant milestone for Saputo Dairy UK and the nation’s favourite cheese brand.

“We’ll continue to strive to offer award-winning solutions like this one in order to progress our commitment to making 100% of our packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable.”

This comes as Cathedral City has added to its plant-based protfolio with the launch of two new products.

The plant-based Extra Mature block and cheddar flavour spread have rolled out in 210 Sainsbury’s stores.
