Aldi offers finder’s fee for new UK store locations

Aldi has revealed a wish list of new stores across the UK and is offering a finder’s fee for anyone who can support the discount grocer in finding suitable sites.

In a bid to find its newest locations, Aldi is offering a finder’s fee of 1.5% of a freehold price or 10% of the first year’s rent for leasehold sites to anyone who can recommend a location, including members of the public.

Looking for a 1.5-acre freehold town-centre or edge-of-town site with a catchment area of 15,000 people or more, each location needs to be able to accommodate a 20,000 square foot store with at least 100 parking spaces.

Some of these locations the grocer is looking to expand into include Cornwall, Oxford, Liverpool and York.

The UK’s fifth largest supermarket, which already has over 960 stores across the UK, is hoping for its expansion to continue to grow its market share which is currently at 9%, according to Kantar data.

With easy access to the public ideally on a main road, the discount retailer currently has 55 priority locations stretching across Wales, England and Scotland.

“By opening more Aldi stores, we can provide affordable, high-quality food to even more people,” Aldi UK national property director George Brown said.

“But despite our growth in recent years, some people still don’t have access to a local store, which is why it is our mission to continue on with our ambitious growth plans and change that.”

“Our finder’s fee is available to anyone who can find Aldi an appropriate property so we’d encourage people to share any suitable suggestions and get it touch.”

The news comes as Aldi is predicted to to overtake Morrisons as the UK’s fourth largest supermarket in less than a year, according to data taken from the most recent Kantar results.
