The Asda Foundation plans to invest over £1m in 73 community projects across the UK through its Local Community Spaces Fund.

The supermarket’s charity division has donated grants of between £10,000 – £20,000 to grassroots organisations helping their local communities, including community centres, village halls and youth hubs.

The funding will be used to back improvements, renovations and accessibility projects across community spaces.

This marks milestone for Asda Foundation, completing the organisation’s five-year commitment to improving the lives of local residents.

Since 2022, the Foundation has donated over £5m to community spaces through its Spaces and Places funding programmes, according to Asda.

Karl Doyle, chair of the Asda Foundation, said: “Strong communities need strong, welcoming spaces. We’re delighted to support 73 organisations this year through the Local Community Spaces Fund.

“These projects will help improve accessibility, protect important local facilities and create welcoming environments where people can come together, feel connected and access the support they need.”

The 73 funded projects were chosen from 749 applications which were submitted by organisations across the UK, which showcases the need for funding within local facilities.

This comes after research from the Asda Foundation’s Community Insight Tracker showcased the continued need for local community spaces.

The figures found that in January 2026, 79 per cent of funded groups said community spaces help reduce isolation while 77 per cent said they help build social connections.

The funding comes after Asda released its income tracker, which showed that low-earner spending power decreased as energy bills rose.
