Soft drinks challenger brand Aapa has launched national distribution across Asda and WHSmith simultaneously, as it targets a new space between soft drinks and functional beverages.

Each 330ml can of Aapa contains 7g of fibre, added Zinc and Calcium, antioxidants and real fruit juice. It is naturally sweetened, and has just 49 calories.

Mark Watkins, director at Aapa, said: “We created Aapa to help people feel better without asking them to compromise on taste. We wanted to make a soft drink that people genuinely want to drink, while also giving them something more from the ingredients in the can.

“That’s what makes Aapa different; it’s about bringing great taste and meaningful nutritional benefits together in a way that feels natural for everyday life.”

He added: “Securing national listings with both Asda and WHSmith at launch is a huge endorsement of that proposition and gives us a strong platform to build from.”

Aapa has ambitions to expand its retail footprint and category presence over the coming year, with further retail, sampling and marketing activity planned through to the end of 2026.

Available in four flavours – Lemon & Lime, Orange, Wild Berry and Tropical, Aapa has an RRP of £2 per 330ml can. There is  an exclusive introductory offer at Asda of 4x 330ml cans for £4, moving to £5.50 post promotion.

Functional drinks are moving further into the mainstream as shoppers look for beverages that offer more than refreshment.

From protein coffee and prebiotic sodas to CBD and adaptogen drinks, beverage brands are racing to tap into demand from younger, health-conscious consumers who want products that claim to support energy, gut health, relaxation or nutrition.
