Tesco extends Clubcard deadline for shoppers to redeem points

Tesco has extended the deadline for Clubcard users to triple the value of points they can spend on reward partners.

This comes as the leading retailer’s shoppers experienced IT issues across the UK on 14 June due to a “high demand” to swap Clubcard points for vouchers.

Users will now have until 11:59pm tonight to triple the value of Clubcard points to spend on brands including Disney+, Legoland and Pizza Express, Sky News reported.

Now, a shopper with 500 points can swap these for codes before the deadline so that they are worth £15 rather than £5.

After tonight’s deadline, customers using the loyalty scheme will only be able to double points rather than triple them when spending on reward partners.

Tesco had already slashed its Clubcard reward vouchers for the second time in five years, resulting in a 33% plunge in earnings value.

This is one of many changes Tesco has made to its Clubcard rewards scheme this year.

In April, the supermarket issued a one-month warning to customers that it would axe its Clubcard app for a new Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app.

Earlier this month, Which? reported Tesco to the Competition and Markets Authority as it criticized the grocery giant’s lack of unit pricing across its food and drink promotions for Clubcard holders as “misleading practice.”
