Discount grocer Lidl has narrowly beat Asda in a price-per-kilogram comparison of trick-or-treat confectionery at nine major UK supermarkets.

According to new research, Lidl’s average treats basket came in at £8.51 per kg, narrowly ahead of Asda at £8.61. Aldi ranked third at £11.03 per kg.

The comparison used the listed price per kilogram for sweets and chocolate marketed as trick-or-treat options. Product ranges differed between retailers, and prices were checked on 7 October 2026.

Lidl’s average was 10p per kg lower than Asda’s. The gap widened further down the ranking, with Tesco averaging £12.09, Sainsbury’s £13.15 and Morrisons £14.26 per kg.

Joe Brunt, consumer finance expert at Fast Loan UK, said shoppers should compare prices per 100g or kilogram rather than relying on the headline pack price.

“A bag that looks cheaper may contain much less, while a larger pack isn’t automatically better value,” he said.

Brunt added that pack count can be as important as weight for households expecting trick-or-treaters, and advised shoppers to compare own-label products with branded alternatives.

He also cautioned against buying multibuy offers unless the extra packs are likely to be used, because unnecessary purchases can erase the apparent saving.
