Data: M&S rated as UK’s best brand

M&S has been ranked as the UK’s best brand in YouGov’s annual Global Best Brand Rankings.

The upmarket retailer secured a score of 46.5, gaining the top spot overall – up from second place last year – as well as topping the High Street Retailer, Fashion Retailer and Supermarket categories.

Rankings from the market research company are based on the index score from the YouGov Brand Index, which is a comprehensive measure of overall brand health.

The score is calculated by taking the average of Impression, Quality, Value, Satisfaction, Recommend, and Reputation rankings from the UK public.

“Being voted number one in the YouGov Best Brand Rankings is fantastic recognition for our colleagues, who are so passionate about our brand and work day in and day out to protect the magic of it as we reshape for growth,” M&S chief executive, Stuart Machin said.

He added: “M&S has always offered quality worth every penny and I’m so pleased that customers are recognising not just the strength and quality of our brand and products but the trusted value they get when they shop at M&S.”

The news comes as Marks and Spencer has extended its opening hours for the Christmas period as well as announced Boxing Day closures, allowing employees to spend more time with loved ones.

Additionally, the retailer has been hit with over 700 striking workers at a factory which makes own-brand products for Marks and Spencer for five weeks in a dispute over pay.
