What money-savings deals do grocers have on this half-term?

As school is out this half-term, parents are feeling the squeeze to their finances not just with the cost-of-living crisis, but also because they suddenly have more mouths to feed during the day.

If you’re on the lookout for some dine-in deals to feed the whole family or some simple money-saving schemes, look no further.

Here’s what retailers are offering this half-term:

Asda – Kids Eat Free for £1

Asda launches its Kids Eat for £1 initiative over the summer to support parents, and the deal is still up and running over half-term.

The big 4 grocer is also opening 32 standalone ‘Asda Express’ convenience stores over the coming year, and has as its current ‘Buy 6, Save 25%’ on bottles of wine.

Tesco – Kids Eat Free scheme

Tesco is bringing back its Kids Eat Free scheme at all its cafes over half-term, enabling parents to spend as little as 60p to claim one free child’s meal worth up to £3.25 when showing their Clubcard at Tesco checkouts.

The offer will be available in 311 cafes at the leading retailer across the UK and will run on weekdays between 17th and 28th October in England, and Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales between 31st October and 4th November.

Morrisons – One free meal

Morrisons will be offering one free meal from the Kids menu with any one adult meal with the value of £5.00 or over.

The supermarket giant has seen some performance decline as Aldi recently overtook them to become the fourth largest grocer.

Waitrose’s Essentials range

Waitrose says it is “working hard” to keep prices as low as possible via its Essentials range, which offer a range of discounts across food and drink.

The supmarket retailer is giving customers greater savings via its myWaitrose loyalty scheme, and it also recently launched ‘Super Saver recipes’, giving customers inspiration for cheap and tasty meals.

Waitrose is also bringing back its free hot drinks offer for loyalty card owners from 7 November.

Aldi’s commitment to low prices

Aldi is helping its shoppers make significant savings on every shop by being the cheapest supermarket in the UK.

The latest research from Which? confirmed that Aldi was the cheapest supermarket in the UK in September 2022 – with a basket of 48 products costing just £75.61. That’s £1.84 less than Lidl.

Sainsbury’s value focus

With costs going up, Sainsbury’s customers can find low prices on everyday staples in stores and online – from chicken breasts to mincemeat, butter, onions, and bananas.

The supermarket is investing £60 million in value food and grocery via the Sainsbury’s Quality label, Aldi Price Match campaign, Price Lock and Special Offers.
