Branston backs Lincolnshire holiday clubs with cookery sessions and potato donations
Potato supplier Branston is supporting children across Lincolnshire with cookery sessions and food education as part of the county’s summer Holiday Activities and Food programme.
The supplier is funding 30 cookery sessions with children’s cooking school Cook Stars and donating potatoes to holiday clubs across northern Lincolnshire and Gainsborough.
The government-funded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme provides free holiday clubs for eligible children from reception to Year 11 during the school holidays, including meals and organised activities.
As part of Branston’s support, children taking part in the Cook Stars sessions will make dishes including frittata and potato salad using healthy recipes developed by Cook Stars Lincoln North & Gainsborough owner Helen Walker.
Participants will also receive recipe cards featuring summer dishes made with baby potatoes to encourage families to continue cooking at home.
Branston HR director Simon Telfer said: “We’re passionate about supporting local initiatives and making a positive impact on Lincolnshire’s communities.
“It’s a pleasure to once again partner with Lincolnshire County Council, bringing local children the opportunity to build on their cooking skills in a fun and engaging environment.”
He added that improving food education among young people could help them make healthier choices in the future.
“Encouraging people, young and old, to learn about the importance of looking after their health and prioritising nutrition is key to building a healthier future for Lincolnshire,” Telfer said.
Lincolnshire County Council executive councillor for Children’s Services Natalie Oliver said Branston’s contribution would help provide nutritious food and activities to children and young people throughout the summer holidays.
“Partnerships like this play a vital role in ensuring families can access support, while helping children stay active, healthy and connected throughout the summer break,” she said.
The latest initiative continues Branston’s support for the local HAF scheme and forms part of its wider community work around food education and nutrition.
This summer’s Lincolnshire HAF sessions are running from 23 July to 2 September.
