Aldi named cheapest supermarket for sixth consecutive month

Aldi has secured the title of the cheapest supermarket in June with an average price of £163.34, according to research from consumer analytics group Which?.

This marks the sixth consecutive month that the discounter has maintained the position of most affordable supermarket.

Lidl followed in second place, with an average price of £164.79 with a loyalty card and £164.92 without a Lidl Plus discount.

Asda was the fourth cheapest supermarket, with a basket of items costing £190.39 and Sainsbury’s with a Nectar card was fifth at £193.30.

Tesco with a Clubcard and Morrisons with a loyalty card were in sixth and seventh place at £194.67 and £198.41 respectively.

High-street retailer Waitrose was named the most expensive supermarket in the UK again, with an average of £229.88 during June.

This marks a nearly 41 per cent difference (£66.54) from the price at an Aldi store.

Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “Being named Which?’s cheapest supermarket for the entire first half of this year is fantastic recognition of our unwavering commitment to offering customers the very best value.

”As families enjoy the World Cup together this summer and look to stretch their budgets, these results prove they can save hundreds of pounds by switching to Aldi without compromising on quality.”
