Waitrose sees sales of low-and-no alcohol surge during World Cup
Waitrose has experienced a rise in low-and-no-alcohol sales, with a 35 per cent increase last week as fans have been watching late night matches.
The supermarket expects a surge in low-alcohol, alcohol-free and CBD drinks sales ahead of England’s match with Mexico this upcoming Monday.
Consumers are shifting their drinking habits as the matches stretch on into the early hours of the morning.
Searches for alcohol-free beer rose by 200 per cent, while mocktail recipe searches went up by 19 per cent.
Additionally, sales of zero per cent 12-packs, including Guinness 0.0, Corona Cero and Peroni 0.0 have tripled.

Sarah Holland, drinks buyer for Waitrose, said: “A one a.m. kick-off on a school night is the ultimate test of endurance for England fans. We’re seeing a massive shift in how the nation watches football—fans want the matchday buzz without the morning hangover.
“Stocking up on alcohol-free beers and calming CBD drinks isn’t just a trend; it’s a brilliant tactical substitution to get supporters through 90 minutes of late-night drama and straight into bed.”
The supermarket also expects a surge for functional wellness drinks, including Goodrays CBD, Trip Wild Strawberry and OHMG Water.
The on-demand grocery delivery service also rose by 42 per cent during Scotland’s game against Haiti, and Waitrose expects Monday to be the busiest night for the platform.
