Aldi plans to install solar panels at a further 62 stores across the UK in 2026, which is part of a £8.4m investment in improving energy resilience across its estate.

This move builds on the existing progress across the estate, with solar panels already installed at over 470 stores across the UK.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We’ve made significant progress over the past year, and we are advancing the next phase of our solar rollout across even more stores in 2026.

“The programme has expanded to cover even more sites than originally planned, and through ongoing investment in our estate, we’re making our operations more resilient while ensuring we continue to deliver great value for customers in a more sustainable way.”

The discounter is currently investing in installing solar panels at 100 stores across 2025 and 2026.

According to the business, each of the installations can provide up to 30 per cent of the store’s annual energy requirements, which helps the supermarket generate more of its electricity on site.

Aldi aims to roll out solar panels at stores in Stratford-upon-Avon, Maghull, Northampton and Wrexham in the near future.

Earlier this year the discounter announced plans to invest over £300m in renovating and extending 11 of its UK stores in 2026.

The investment will fund a wide range of renovations to its stores, including building extensions and enhancement upgrades.
