Premier Foods reports major sustainability investments
Premier Foods has reported progress with major investments in low-carbon operations and manufacturing healthier products.
As part of the company’s Enriching Life Plan, Premier Foods made a £2.1 million investment in a new solar farm at the Carlton Bakery in South Yorkshire.
The new project is expected to reduce overall carbon emissions by nearly 468 tonnes per year while supporting long-term energy resilience and delivering savings in yearly costs.
This move is part of a broader programme of solar investments across Premier Foods’ manufacturing sites.
The Group also plans to reveal a range of key health metrics to align with the Government’s ambition for all major food businesses.

Additionally, the sales of products which adhere to high nutritional standards increased by 16 per cent during the year, and the business achieved the milestone target of over 50 per cent of products to meet non-HFSS nutritional standards.
The Group also reported a 14 per cent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 market-based emissions over the year as it made changes to multiple manufacturing sites to improve energy efficiency.
ESG director at Premier Foods, Nick Brown, said: “Our Enriching Life Plan continues to play a central role in how we grow the business responsibly.
“This year we have made meaningful progress across all three pillars of product, planet and people – from reducing carbon emissions and investing in renewable energy infrastructure, to expanding and investing in healthier product ranges and strengthening our support for more sustainable diets.”
