SpudBros ramps up forecourt push with Newcastle Express launch

SpudBros is opening a new Express store in Newcastle as part of its fast-growing roadside retail partnership with Taster and EG On The Move.

The jacket potato brand will launch the new site at The Silverlink North on New York Road, Newcastle, on Tuesday 19 May at 12pm.

To mark the opening, SpudBros will hand out a free spud to the first 100 customers, with the store trading until 9pm on launch day.

The opening forms part of a wider plan to roll out 30 SpudBros roadside locations across petrol forecourts over the next three years.

The Newcastle store follows SpudBros Express openings in London, Liverpool, Sheffield and Portsmouth, alongside EG On The Move concessions in Blackburn, Wakefield and Barnstaple.

The business said the format had been designed for high-footfall, convenience-led locations, serving freshly prepared loaded jacket potatoes in minutes.

The Newcastle site is one of 15 new locations confirmed for this year as SpudBros, Taster and EG On The Move accelerate the brand’s expansion into roadside and forecourt retail.

The menu includes the Tram Classic, loaded with garlic butter, three-cheese mix, beans, crispy onions and tram sauce, alongside the Spudfather, topped with chilli con carne, tuna coleslaw and bolognese.

Customers can also choose a build-your-own option, while a newly introduced breakfast menu is aimed at broadening the brand’s appeal across different dayparts.

SpudBros co-founder Jacob Nelson said: “Newcastle has such a strong sense of identity and community, so opening here feels really special for us.

“Geordies are known for getting behind the things they love, and we can’t wait to welcome them into SpudBros Express.

“Whether you’re heading into the city, travelling up the A1, or passing the Angel of the North, you can now pull in and grab one of our famous potatoes in minutes.”

Taster chief executive Bertrand Peyrat said the launch showed how creator-led food brands could move into physical retail through strong community demand.

“SpudBros continues to prove that great food brands can be built through authentic community engagement and a product people genuinely love,” he said.

“Together with EG On The Move, we’re making high-quality, freshly prepared food more accessible than ever, and this latest opening marks another important step in our national expansion.”

EG On The Move chief executive Zuber Issa added: “Customers increasingly expect quality, convenience and value when they’re on the move, and SpudBros delivers all three.

“We look forward to introducing the brand to even more customers across the North East and building on the success we’ve already seen through this partnership.”

The Newcastle concession will be open seven days a week, trading from 11am to 9pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.
