Fortnum & Mason launches limited-edition pineapple rum
The Amalthea Experimental Series Pineapple Rum is priced at £40 for a 50cl bottle and has an ABV of 46 per cent.
The spirit is made using fresh pineapple, which is hand-cut and batch-dried before being macerated in a blend of five cask-aged Caribbean rums.
Fortnum & Mason said the rum offers tropical fruit flavours alongside baking spice and pastry notes.
It has positioned the drink for use in classic rum cocktails and Tiki-style serves, as well as mixed with cloudy apple juice and a citrus garnish.
It has also recommended pairing the spirit with barbecue dishes, marinated chicken and roasted pineapple desserts.
The rum was created by Fortnum & Mason’s in-house distillery team and is distilled, bottled and hand-labelled at its Piccadilly flagship.
Only 100 bottles of the limited-edition release will be available.
The launch marks the beginning of Fortnum & Mason’s Amalthea Experimental Series, which will focus on small-batch spirits and new flavour development from the retailer’s London distillery.
