Tesco has doubled the number of electric home delivery vans over the last year, with over 30 per cent of the fleet now powered by electricity according to the business.

This marks a major milestone for the retailer and shows progress for Tesco’s goal to shift to a fully electronic home delivery fleet in the UK by the end of 2030.

Tesco rolled out its 2000th electric home delivery van at Hemsworth Superstore in West Yorkshire.

This move is part of the supermarket retailer’s commitment to decreasing carbon emissions across its operations.

Tesco has continued to rapidly expand its electric home delivery van fleet as part of its goal to achieve net zero across its own operations by 2035.

This follows last year’s milestone of Tesco deploying its 1000th electric home delivery van, which officially entered service at the Cardiff Extra store.

According to the business, the impact of transitioning its entire UK home delivery fleet to electric power would be equivalent to taking 22,000 cars off the road annually.

Nick Potter, transport distribution director at Tesco said: “The arrival of our 2,000th electric home delivery van at Hemsworth is another important milestone in our journey towards a fully electric home delivery fleet across the UK by 2030.

“Every new electric van we introduce helps us reduce emissions, improve local air quality and move closer to our goal of achieving net zero in our own operations by 2035. We’re proud to be leading the way in the transition to low-emissions home delivery for our customers.”
