Nisa retailers save 175k meals through Too Good To Go

Nisa’s independent retailers have hit a milestone, saving 175,000 meals from going to waste with surplus food app Too Good To Go.

Since the partnership began in 2019, over 300 stores have signed up to the app, with the latest figure equating to 477,187 kilograms of CO2e avoided.

The initiative offers Too Good To Go’s registered app users grocery ‘Surprise Bags’, which include a mix of items approaching their best-before dates at a reduced price, and can be collected from the partnering Nisa stores.

The collaboration looks to help tackle food waste, with it estimated that 33% of all food produced is wasted every year – equating to £1 trillion worth of food annually.

Nisa regional retail manager Ian Bacon said: “Every Nisa store that has so far partnered with Too Good To Go has given positive feedback about how simple the app is to use and the impact on the local community.

“I know many of our retailers are really passionate about environmental issues and partnering with Too Good To Go is a fantastic way of preventing excessive waste of food products.”

Too Good To Go UK and Ireland country director Sophie Trueman added: “Since partnering with Nisa in 2019, their commitment and active involvement have made them a valuable partner in our mission to reduce food waste.

“Together, we have successfully saved 175,000 meals to date, a significant achievement in our efforts to reduce food waste. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and the positive influence businesses can have when working together.”

It comes as Booths teamed up with Too Good To Go in February in a bid to combat food waste in the north of England and just last month, Getir became the latest partner of the social impact company.
