Getir partners with Too Good To Go to help fight food waste

Getir has partnered with social impact company Too Good To Go to help tackle food waste across the UK.

The initiative offers Too Good To Go’s registered app users grocery ‘Surprise Bags’, which include a mix of items approaching their best-before dates at a reduced price.

The bags, which can be reserved from all 45 Getir stores across London, Manchester, and Portsmouth, will cost just £5.50, for items worth between £16 to £18.

Getir UK general manager Karthik Harith said: “Our Getir stores offer an incredible range for our customers, and now thanks to the partnership with Too Good To Go, we can provide another sustainable way to reduce food waste in store and in homes.

“While we wanted to offer our customers the opportunity to access good food at great value for money, having a trusted and convenient partner to help us open our doors was imperative in taking this next step in our commitment – we are so pleased to be able to do this with Too Good To Go.”

It comes as other grocery retailers have also recently launched or expanded their partnerships with the social impact company.

In February, Aldi hit a climate milestone of saving almost 1,000 tonnes of C02 in one year through its partnership with the firm.

Since launching in February last year, the discount supermarket has sold 400,000 ‘surprise bags‘ to customers, which it claimed saved shoppers £8m.

In the same month, Booths joined forces with Too Good To Go to combat food waste in the north of England following an initial two-month trial which saw the partnership save 7,350 meals from going to waste – helping to avoid 18 tonnes of CO2e emissions.
