BP has named former M&S franchise director David Phillpot as its new convenience trading director for Europe.
In the newly created role, Phillpot will drive performance and convenience retail growth across the retailer’s European network of over 3,000 company-owned stores.
He will also help to maximise BP’s strategic grocery partnerships with retailers including M&S.

Phillpot joins with over 25 years of experience in the food retail sector, having most recently led relationships and commercial plans with M&S franchise partners, including BP.
Prior to being M&S franchise director, he held the position of trading director of convenience food at the upmarket retailer, overseeing key categories including ready meals, food on the move and desserts.
BP convenience VP for Europe Jo Hayward said: “We are delighted to welcome David to BP as we continue to deliver our exciting growth ambitions for our convenience retail business.
“With a proven track record of delivering outstanding results at M&S, David brings valuable expertise to our team.”
Phillpot added: “With ambitious growth plans in convenience retailing and EV charging across Europe, joining the business at such a transformative phase promises an exciting opportunity to drive growth and performance in the rapidly evolving mobility and convenience sector.”
The appointment comes as the latest in a string of recent hires for the retailer.
Last year, BP boosted its team with supermarket experts including former Sainsbury’s regional stores director Jo Hall as its retail operations director, former Lidl marketing director Claire Farrant as VP of marketing for mobility and convenience, and former Waitrose convenience lead Teresa Lindley as UK trading director.
