Morrisons unveils fleet of CCTV vans to tackle rising crime levels

Morrisons is launching a range of CCTV vans to help tackle rising levels of retail crime.

Rolling out in partnership with Crimestoppers, which Morrisons has worked with for over ten years, the initiative will see five vans operating across the UK with the aim of deterring and identifying crime to protect customers.

The fleet promotes the supermarket’s partnership with Crimestoppers, with each van featuring the charity’s telephone number and website.

Morrisons corporate protection manager Carl Probert said: “The partnership has gone from strength to strength in recent years, as more information is shared, and more positive action is taken.

“This protects not only the Morrisons business, but also our staff, customers and those who live near our stores.

“The vans can be moved to locations were there are issues of crime, to stop the incidents from continuing, or to catch those committing the crime on camera so that the relevant action can be taken.”

This comes as abuse against retail workers has nearly doubled than that of pre-Covid levels, according to research by the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

As a result, Tesco is offering store workers body cameras, as physical assault cases on staff soar to more than 200 each month.

Waitrose is also offering free coffees to police officers, hoping the ‘thanks a latte’ initiative will reduce thefts by encouraging law enforcement to make stops in stores.
