Amazon makes Fresh delivery available to non-Prime customers in US

Amazon has opened up its Fresh grocery delivery to non-Prime members in the US.

According to CNBC, only users in cities such as San Francisco, Boston, Nashville, Tennessee, and Austin, Texas, will be able to access the service.

It is unclear if the move will be replicated in the UK at this stage, however, it comes as it removes barriers to consumers shopping its grocery offer.

Amazon will charge non-Prime members $13.95 for deliveries under $50 (£39), while orders between $50 and $100 will incur a $10.95 fee, and orders over $100 will carry a $7.95 delivery fee.

Previously, only members of Amazon’s $139-a-year (£109) Prime program could order groceries from Fresh.

The company intends to reveal more changes to its grocery business in the coming months, like rolling out Fresh delivery for non-Prime members nationwide, including products from Whole Foods and other grocers, Amazon executives told Bloomberg.

Amazon Fresh also allowed people to pay by card in its stores earlier this year, rather than using its Just Walk Out technology in the UK.

Amazon Fresh CEO, Andy Jassy, announced that Amazon would close some Fresh and Go stores recently, and pause further expansion until it finds a format that resonates with customers and “where we like the economics.”

Last month, Amazon shut the doors to three of its Fresh convenience stores in Ealing, Wandsworth and East Sheen.
