Aldi has been named the cheapest UK supermarket for the fourteenth consecutive month, with a basket of groceries priced at £71.22.
According to consumer watchdog Which?, Lidl was just £1.38 more expensive, followed by Asda and Tesco at £78.65 and £79.59, respectively.
Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Ocado were each priced above £80 for an average basket of groceries and household essentials, while upmarket retailer Waitrose was found to cost the most at £87.24.

Aldi managing director, Julie Ashfield, said: “The summer holidays can be difficult financially for many but we will continue supporting our customers by consistently offering them great quality products at the lowest possible prices.”
As well as having been crowned the cheapest supermarket for July, Aldi was was found to be the cheapest for seven months of 2022, more than any other grocery retailer.
This comes as Aldi is cutting the price of fruit and vegetables as it looks to pass savings on to customers during the cost-of-living crisis.
In recent weeks, the discount grocer also cut milk prices as part of a major multi-million pound investment, lowered the price of almost 100 products and expanded its Super 6 fruit and veg range to Super 7.
