Tesco slashes prices of over 500 household essentials

Tesco has cut the price of more than 500 household essentials, with average savings of 13%, to help customers reduce the cost of their weekly shop.

The price drop focuses on products that are brought week-in, week-out, as well as summer favourites and healthy choices.

The items include Tesco tinned tuna, peppers, cheddar, grapes, rice, frozen fruit, orange juice and bin bags.

The leading retailer’s fusilli pasta will also be included in the price cut, down by 5p, which comes as the second reduction in price in recent weeks.

Tesco has also dropped the price of four-pint milk by a further 10p at £1.45.

As part of this, the Big 4 grocer also renewed its commitment to its nearly 500 British dairy farmers who will continue to be paid a price that reflects the cost of production.

Tesco chief product officer, Ashwin Prasad, said: “We know that more than ever our customers are looking for great value, and this huge round of price cuts on 500 key household essentials will help their budgets go a little further.”

“With price cuts on products like grapes, peppers, rice and tuna, customers will find it’s even cheaper to eat healthily with Tesco this summer, and we’ll continue to work closely with our suppliers to pass on price cuts to our customers whenever we can.”

The supermarket is also re-launching its Kids Eat Free scheme this summer, offering a free children’s meal when a paying adult presents their Clubcard and spends as little as 60p in one of Tesco cafes.

The offer will run on weekdays from 24 July to 1 September in England and Wales, from 3 July to 1 September in Northern Ireland, and from 3 July to 11 August in Scotland.
