Aldi taunts McVitie’s on Twitter over £5 biscuits

Aldi have taken to Twitter to taunt McVitie’s as shoppers spotted its Digestives biscuits on sale for over £5.

The wise-cracking team behind the German discounter’s Twitter account took aim at McVitie’s by comparing the price of it’s 69p Belmont Chocolate Digestives to the British biscuit maker’s products, prices at £5.39.

It is unclear which retailer the McVitie’s products were being sold in, but Twitter user No Context Brits brought it to the attention of its followers, where one shopper calculated that the pack came to “21p a biscuit.”

It comes as Aldi has been named the UK’s cheapest supermarket for April, with shoppers able to save £17 on a basket of items from Aldi compared to the most expensive supermarket.

Shoppers expressed bemusement at the cost of the McVitie’s chocolate, which sell for £1.75 at Tesco or £2.25 at Asda.
