Tesco launches new premium meal deal for £5

Tesco is expanding it’s existing meal deal offering by introducing a new ‘premium meal deal’ for £5.

The new range from the UK’s largest retailer will sit alongside the standard meal deal in shops, and is set to include a wider variety of items, with brands such as itsu, YO! Sushi, Pollen and Grace, and items from the Tesco Finest range.

The premium meal deal is currently available in 1,200 Tesco stores around the UK for £5 per head with a Clubcard, or £5.50 without.

Shoppers will find there are over 33 main meal choices on offer through the new line, such as Tesco Finest Roast Beef, West Country Cheddar & Truffle Mayo Tiger Roll, the Tesco Finest Chicken & N’duja Wrap and the YO! Rainbow Salmon Poke.

In addition to the mains, customers opting for premium are still able to buy drinks and snacks that would have accompanied the standard Meal Deal.

“We know that our Tesco Meal Deal is hugely popular with our customers, and is a lunchtime staple for millions of people day in, day out,” Chief Customer Officer, at Tesco, Alessandra Bellini said.

“But sometimes you want to treat yourself to something a little special, and the new premium meal deal gives our shoppers the opportunity to upgrade their usual lunch choices.”

Bellini added: “Featuring a wide range of mains including new Finest and Wicked Kitchen sandwiches and salads, as well as options from itsu, YO! Sushi and Pollen & Grace, there are over four million combinations to be tried.

“What’s more, at only £5 for the full meal, Clubcard members really can enjoy gourmet on the go,” she said.

In October last year, meal deal prices rose from its original price of £3 after ten years. Now £3.40 for Clubcard holders, and £3.90 for customers without.

It comes as Tesco has launched at-home testing kits for shoppers to test for various health problems, including bowel cancer, menopause and thyroid issues, in more than 500 UK stores today.
