Fife free-from food brand Nakey Bakey secured a listing across Scotmid stores, with plans for wider UK growth.

The Glenrothes-based business won Scotmid’s Scottish Favourites competition, with its allergen-free granola products set to be stocked across its Scottish estate.

Products will be distributed through wholesaler J.W. Filshill.

Nakey Bakey, founded by Megan Murrie, also secured a £100,000 invoice finance facility from Bank of Scotland to support the expansion.

The funding will be used to invest in stock, increase production capacity and help manage payment terms linked to larger retail contracts.

The business also planned to grow its workforce by the end of 2026 as production increased.

Murrie launched Nakey Bakey after struggling to find suitable products while living with endometriosis and a nut allergy.

She began developing granola recipes at home before growing the company into a dedicated manufacturing operation in Glenrothes.

Its products are free from all 14 major allergens, contain no added sugar and are vegan-friendly.

Murrie said: “Securing our first major retail listing in Scotmid Co-op stores is a huge milestone for Nakey Bakey.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see something that started in my kitchen now on supermarket shelves, and the support from Bank of Scotland has given me the confidence and funding to take those next steps.”

Since rebranding in 2024, Nakey Bakey has won Free From Product of the Year at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards and Health & Wellbeing Start-Up of the Year at the Scotland Start-Up Awards.

Its Mixed Berry Granola also received a Great Taste Award, while the company achieved SALSA food safety accreditation.

Nakey Bakey is working towards B Corp certification by the end of 2027 and aims to expand beyond granola into new categories as part of plans to grow across the UK and explore export opportunities.
