Mars reformulates selection of Galaxy chocolate products
Confectionary manufacturer Mars has quietly reformulated a selection of its Galaxy chocolates.
According to The Grocer, after sugar, skimmed milk powder has now been bumped above cocoa butter as the second listed ingredient across a range of Galaxy products.
The analysis of Assosia data found that items affected by the change include its 110g Galaxy Milk bars, Galaxy Ripple Chocolate Bar and Galaxy Minstrels Chocolate Bags Multipacks which now have more semi skimmed milk powder than cocoa butter.
“Skimmed milk powder now appears before cocoa butter in the ingredients list as sweet whey powder is not currently included in the recipe. The proportion of cocoa butter in our Galaxy recipe remains unchanged,” a Mars spokeswoman told The Grocer.
Earlier this year, Mars Wrigley launched ‘Triple Treat’, its first ever ‘healthy’ chocolate bar that complies with regulations on high in fat, salt of sugar (HFSS) products.
The fibrous, low sugar and lower calorie snack is available in four variations – Snickers, Mars, Galaxy and Bounty.
This news comes as Mars Wrigley is to remove Bounty bars from its Celebrations chocolate tube in a pre-Christmas trial, following 39% of customers wanting the coconut-flavoured chocolate to be removed for good.
The alternative tubs will include additional Galaxy, Mars, Maltesers, Milky Way and Snickers chocolates to make up for the missing coconut sweets.

I remember when the Galaxy bar first sold in our local corner shop, the taste was different from any other chocolate bar on sale, the bar had two lines of square block chocolate inside a creamy yellow wrapper, the way galaxy is made now seems to have lost some of its distinctive taste it had back then, possibly because of the wavy shape and something left out.
The galaxy bar along with cadburys is definitely not as we the British knew it to be. I stopped eating Cadbury years ago and can’t imagine I’ll be a fan for much longer of galaxy. The Swiss chocolate is becoming the best tasting chocolate in the UK
