Morrisons launches Christmas toy sale to help shoppers amid cost-of-living crisis

Morrisons has launched a toy sale offering its customers up to 50% off in a bid to help spread costs this Christmas.

Available across 423 of the grocery retailers stores from today (10 October), the sale looks to help parents who might be struggling to buy their children Christmas presents this year, with the additional pressures of the cost-of-living crisis.

Last month, overall shop price inflation hit 5.7%, while food price inflation rose to its highest recorded rate with shoppers paying 10.6% more than the same time last year according to data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) – NielsenIQ index.

In a bid to spread added Christmas costs, Morrisons toy sale will see up to 50% off big-name toy brands including Peppa Pig, Super Mario Kart and Hotwheels.

“We know that customers are under real financial pressure at the moment and want to help them when it comes to their Christmas shopping,” Morrisons toy buyer, David Catton said.

“We’re reducing the price of our toys now to help customers spread the cost of the festive season and tick off some important jobs.”

Tesco announced its toy sale last week which also looked to help parents spread the cost of the festive period with 40 to 50% off its offerings.

The Big 4 grocer recently partnered with toy shop The Entertainer which will see several branded toy concessions opened across 35 of Tesco’s stores in time for the Christmas peak sales period.

This news comes as frozen food retailer Iceland is also encouraging its shoppers to start their Christmas shopping early, having launched its dedicated online Christmas page two months ahead of time to establish early frozen food orders.
