Aldi is bracing for a record bank holiday surge in sales of prosecco, with the discounter forecasting to sell 35 bottles of bubbly a minute.

The supermarket chain is expecting to sell around 300,00 glasses of prosecco a day, representing a 300% surge in sales ahead of the May bank holiday weekend compared to the same period last year.

Alongside prosecco, Aldi said it’s anticipating to sell over nine million burgers, sausages and bread rolls over the weekend.

The supermarket revealed earlier this year it celebrated its strongest-ever Christmas trading period amid rising consumer popularity for discounters during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

At the time, Aldi UK CEO Giles Hurley reemphasised his pledge to keep prices low for shoppers throughout the coming year.

“As we look ahead to 2024, our promise to customers is that they will always make significant savings on every shop with Aldi because we have the lowest grocery prices in Britain,” added Hurley.
