Delivery service Getir are giving away free pints of milk as inflation is causing fuel prices to fall, making milk more expensive than petrol in some cases.
With UK shoppers tightening their budgets recently amid a cost-of-living crisis and food inflation spiking, the soaring cost of milk means some retailers are now charging more per litre for the drink.
Because of this, the ‘ultrafast’ grocery delivery pioneer Getir are getting the essentials to people in need by giving away free pints of milk to customers with every order that exceeds £20.
In supermarkets, it is generally cheaper to buy milk in bigger quantities, such as in two or four litre bottles. However, it may not be practical for those living alone, the elderly and for those who do not use a lot of milk as the product can go off quite quickly.
Milk prices have soared in the past year, pushing up the average price per pint to 86p – the equivalent of £1.50 a litre.
Discount retailers are selling single pints for as much as £1.05, a fraction under £1.85 a litre. By contrast, petrol prices have fallen from a high of 191p a litre to around 149p at the pump in some areas.
The offer is available for all milk products available on the Getir app, including Cravendale Whole Milk and Oatly Long Life Milk.
“We at Getir have an ongoing commitment to give our customers value up and down the country,” Getir UK said.
“Amid spiralling supermarket prices and the news of the latest milk inflation, we want to ensure people get the essentials they need, when they need them, it said.
