M&S Food free fruit for kids returns as part of Eat Well campaign

M&S Food halls have seen free fruit for kids making a post-pandemic return as part of the retailer’s Eat Well campaign.

The free fruit offer is available for kids shopping across over 500 UK stores this summer. M&S Food is offering children a choice between bananas and easy peelers as part of a wider move to support families with healthy eating choices.

The move is part of M&S’ Eat Well Play Well partnership with the England football team and aims to help children reach their goal of five pieces of fruit and veg each day.

Launching the Eat Well Play Well campaign, M&S Food marketing director Sharry Cramond described M&S Food as being on a “mission to make it easy for families to make healthy choices”.

The multi-year partnership with the home nations Football Associations (FAs) will see M&S harnessing  football fans’ energy and enthusiasm to help promote its healthy eating mission.

“We want kids to be inspired by their footballing heroes,” Cramond continued.

The free fruit offer was removed from all retailers during the Covid-19 pandemic. M&S is the first to reintroduce the scheme and it has said it expects to give away around 200,000 pieces by the end of the summer.

All kids’ meals are also eligible for a free piece of fruit in the M&S cafes, where children are currently able to eat for free with every paying adult spending more than £5. The supermarket has reported giving away more than 35,000 pieces of free fruit in its cafes last week.

The free fruit initiative was first launched across 800 Tesco stores in summer 2016 and soon rolled out across the UK, with Morrisons and M&S Food following suit in 208 and 2019 respectively.
