Discounter Lidl has trolled rival Aldi as it readied a new store.
After unveiling a new store in Galway, Ireland, Lidl put up a poster reading keep your friends close”, alongside an image of a pair of binoculars.
Yesterday [25 February], Lidl opened the doors to the new store situated in Knocknacarra. As a result, the new store will create over 30 permanent jobs, and sees a local investment of more than €13 million.
“We are delighted to finally open the doors to our brand-new store in Knocknacarra. The store will offer customers an even better shopping experience with its spacious design, ample parking and sustainability features throughout,” store manager Pauline McLoughlin said.

“The new store is a positive addition to the local area of Knocknacarra making our fantastic range of top-quality produce available at the best possible prices. We look forward to welcoming customers.”
Meanwhile, many social media users have praised Lidl for its “trolling” of Aldi. One user said: “Lidl are opening a new store in Galway. It’s next door to an Aldi. This sign is facing the Aldi store. Top trolling.”
