Waitrose appoints Barry Dick MW as beer, wine & spirit bulk sourcing manager

Waitrose has named Barry Dick MW as its new beer, wine and spirit bulk sourcing manager, with effect from the end of the month.

In his new position, he will focus on managing global importation and UK packing of wines and spirits for the drinks buying team.

Dick MW has previously worked at Big 4 grocer, Sainsbury’s, as winemaker from 2006 to 2011.

He later went to work for Australian Vintage Limited, Peduncle Wine Industry Consulting and Accolade Wines.

Most recently, he held the position of managing director at Winesuperhero Industry Counsulting. He also became a Master of Wine in 2013.

“We are delighted to welcome Barry to our team.  This new role is a fantastic opportunity for us to increase our capability to import bulk wines & spirits and package them here in the UK, further building on our sustainability credentials,” Waitrose head of beers, ciders, wines, spirits and soft drinks, Pierpaolo Petrassi said.

“Barry’s extensive experience and knowledge in packaging, importation of wines and spirits as well as his passion for sustainability will make him an invaluable addition to the team.”

The news follows Waitrose and M&S being named among a plethora of high-profile British brands which are lending their support to the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, taking place on 5 June 2022.

The major household names have come together with a number of other British brands and leading international companies to celebrate The Queen’s 70-year reign.
