Tesco has been named the top ranked retailer in the 2022/23 UK consumer rankings by the world’s largest independent arbiter of branding, Superbrands.
The supermaket giant took top spot in the category for retail food and drink, followed by Sainsbury’s and Waitrose.
The annual awards which has been ranking brands since 1995, was voted on by 2,500 adults this year and ratified by a panel of top business experts.

Over 1,500 consumer brands across 86 categories were assessed on quality, reliability and distinction.
Among the top 20 ranking consumer Superbrands, breakfast food company Kellogg’s took seventh spot, with ice cream brand Haagen-Dazs in tenth place.
Food processing company Heinz also made the top 20 list in 14th position, with Coca-Cola in the 17th spot.
“To be considered as a superbrand, a product or service must not only provide utmost quality, but also engage customers on an emotional level and stand out from its competitors,” Superbrands UK CEO, Damon Segal said.
This comes as Iceland has been named the supermarket with the highest percentage of its own-brand wild seafood products bearing the blue Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) ecolabel, with 76% of its range being certified.
