Sainsbury’s apologises for ‘6p off’ special offer

Sainsbury’s has issued an apology  after vouchers which offered “6p off” shopping were sent out to customers.

The vouchers offer a 6p saving if customers spend £30 or more.

As a result, customers took to social media to express their surprise at the offering. One shopper said “Happy New Year. 6p off when I spend £30, I know times are hard but this is taking the mick!!!”

Another added: “Wow this offer from Sainsbury’s is one not to miss spend £30 and get 6p off. What is the actual point?”

The Big 4 grocer, apologised for the coupon saying it should have stated 6p on every litre of fuel.

Vouchers offering customers £4.50 off on a spend of £30 or more when used with a Nectar card were sent out, alongside the ones offering 6p off when a customer spent £30 in a store, which left customers baffled.

The initial voucher sent out would have brought a £30 in-store shop down to £29.94.

The Big 4 grocer admitted its offer had not gone quite as planned and apologised for the confusion.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “There was a printing error on a recent coupon which should have read ‘save 6p per litre of fuel.’

“Customers can still redeem the coupon and we’re sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”
