Waitrose unveils latest Universal Bag with Dish podcast
Waitrose has launched a limited-edition reusable shopping bag in partnership with Dish, its food and entertainment podcast, and fashion designer Anya Hindmarch.
The Dish X Anya Hindmarch Universal Bag will go on sale from the end of September across 225 Waitrose stores and online, priced at £15.
The bag is made from 100 per cent recycled plastic and is designed to be fully recyclable. It also features a built-in freepost pocket, allowing customers to return the bag for recycling once it reaches the end of its usable life.
The launch is part of Anya Hindmarch’s Universal Bag initiative, which has been running since 2021 and involves partnerships with food retailers. Waitrose said the wider initiative has so far diverted more than 546 tonnes of plastic from landfill.
Hindmarch said: “It’s exciting to see the Universal Bag project is truly driving change in consumer behaviour, and contributing to a circular economy, with over 500 tonnes of plastic saved from landfill so far. Plastic pollution remains a pressing environmental issue but working together with major global food retailers shows the solution must be collaborative.”

The latest bag comes in a pink colourway with green handles and has been tested to carry up to 12kg.
The launch extends Waitrose’s use of Dish, which was launched in 2022 and is hosted by Nick Grimshaw and chef Angela Hartnett. The retailer has increasingly used the podcast as a platform to connect its food proposition with wider consumer engagement.
Nathan Ansell, chief customer officer at Waitrose, said: “As the home of food lovers we’re bringing the infectious energy of Dish to your weekly shop. This collaboration is a love letter to everything we stand for: great taste, bold style, and a serious passion for food. Whether you’re sourcing ingredients for an Angela Hartnett masterpiece or grabbing nibbles for tonight’s dinner party, now you can do it with proper Dish flair.”
The launch comes as Waitrose continues to invest in sustainability and reusable packaging alongside wider efforts to strengthen its food proposition.
Earlier this month, Waitrose also announced an expansion of its partnership with Tony’s Open Chain, with more than half of its seasonal chocolate products set to be sourced through the cocoa initiative.
The bag will be available at Waitrose core stores but will not be sold through its convenience shops, Welcome Break locations, fuel stations or Channel Islands stores. Purchases will also be limited to three bags per customer.
