Morrisons is offering free oranges to children on England and Scotland match days to celebrate this year’s summer football tournament.

The retailer is giving away free fruit on 14, 19 and 24 June for Scotland’s games during the summer. The giveaway for England supporters will start on 17 June and will be followed by 23 and 27 June.

This move is part of a nostalgic football tradition of orange slices at half-time and builds on the supermarket’s initiative of giving away fresh fruit to children.

Morrisons has been offering fresh fruit since 2018 to help families achieve their 5 pieces a day.

Jacob Uren, senior citrus trader at Morrisons, said: “Encouraging children to enjoy fresh fruit has long been important to us at Morrisons, and orange slices are such a nostalgic part of football culture.

“We hope our free oranges help keep little fans refreshed, energised and ready to cheer on England and Scotland this summer.”

The free fruit will be available for younger shoppers on Morrisons Market Street on select dates while stocks last. Additionally, customers at Morrisons’ Welsh supermarkets will be able to pick up free fruit at the local Market Street.

This comes after the supermarket retailer offered free breakfast to kids earlier this year over the Easter holidays in partnership with Kellogg’s.
