Aldi sees beer and ice cream sales surge over heatwave
Aldi has seen a surge in sales of BBQ staples, beer and other items as shoppers have been stocking up during the heatwave to keep cool amid the soaring temperatures.
The discounter sold 80 per cent more Smash Burgers and Quarter Pounders this week compared to last year, and over 80,000 hot dogs were bought.
Brits increased their alcohol consumption during the week, which was also boosted by the ongoing World Cup tournament.
Aldi sold 34 per cent more beer compared to last week in the 24 hours before the England vs Ghana match.

The supermarket retailer expects higher sales for alcohol this weekend before England’s match against Panama.
The sales of ice cream went up by 144 per cent week-on-week, with over 2.5m units sold between Monday and Wednesday.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “When the sun shines in the UK, we absolutely make the most of it. With soaring temperatures coinciding with the football, shoppers filled their baskets with items designed to bring people together.
“Brits’ sociable spirit remains strong, with more people choosing to host at home and finding smarter ways to entertain.”
