Cathedral City is moving into chilled pizza for the first time with a four-strong range launching exclusively at Morrisons next month.

The Saputo-owned cheese brand will roll out Margherita, Ham & Cheese, Pepperoni and Garlic Chicken pizzas from 7 October, priced at £3.95 each.

Each SKU features a stone-baked base topped with Cathedral City cheddar, mozzarella and what the brand described as “premium toppings”.

A Cathedral City spokesperson said pizza represented a natural extension for the brand as shoppers increasingly look for convenient meal solutions without compromising on flavour.

“Cathedral City is a brand synonymous with great-tasting cheese, and we know consumers are increasingly looking for convenient meal solutions that don’t compromise on flavour,” they said.

“By combining a stone-baked base with generous amounts of Cathedral City cheddar, we’ve created a range that helps make pizza night even better.”

The launch marks the latest stage in Cathedral City’s push beyond traditional block cheese and into broader meal occasions.

Earlier this month, the brand expanded its ready meal line-up with a Bacon Mac & Cheese SKU, while it has also added new spreadable and peelable cheese products as it looks to tap demand for convenience and snacking.

Cathedral City has also been building its presence in chilled food. Last year it moved into party food through products including Cheese & Ham Croquettes and Cathedral City Cheddar Sticks, as part of a wider strategy to extend the brand beyond the dairy aisle.

The pizza launch will be backed by shopper marketing and digital activity across Morrisons stores and online, with Cathedral City aiming to drive trial and establish a foothold in the chilled pizza category.

The NPD comes at a significant moment for the brand. Saputo agreed last month to sell its UK dairy division, including Cathedral City, Country Life, Davidstow and Wensleydale, to Lactalis in a £988m deal.

The transaction, which remains subject to regulatory approval and is expected to complete by the end of the first quarter of 2027, will substantially expand Lactalis’ presence in UK cheese and spreads.

Cathedral City is Britain’s biggest-selling cheese brand, with annual retail sales of around £320m, giving it significant brand recognition as it pushes further into adjacent chilled categories.
