Tesco is extending its Future Farmer Programme for another three years, which supports British farmers in partnership with Harper Adams University’s School of Sustainable Food and Farming.

The scheme has backed over 200 farmers to develop skills which are needed to build a sustainable business.

As part of the programme, participants will learn about every stage of the food system, from the farms to supermarket shelves.

Additionally, the scheme will teach farmers different approaches to sustainability, productivity and long-term business resilience.

This move builds on the supermarket retailer’s wider commitment to work alongside farmers to strengthen UK agriculture and support the transition to sustainable food production.

Natalie Smith, head of sustainable agriculture and fisheries at Tesco, said: “We are really proud to continue our support for young British farmers through our Future Farmer Programme.

“As British agriculture’s biggest customer, we know how important it is to invest in the people who will shape the future of farming.

“Supporting young farmers to build skills in sustainability, innovation and resilience is vital if we are to maintain a strong British food supply chain for generations to come.”

The applications for the 2026/27 cohort are now open until 31 July, and Tesco is encouraging farmers under 40 to apply for the programme.
