Asda reports increasing orders over football hydration breaks
The rising temperatures across the UK and football matches have led to a boost in grocery sales for Asda this summer.
Asda has reported a 30 per cent jump in demand for online orders during half-time, and the added hydration breaks over the World Cup tournament.
The combination of warmer weather and major sporting events is encouraging shoppers to stock up on snacks, drinks and other essentials throughout the evening.
Asda has seen sales of desserts and ice cream, beer and soft drinks surge by 127 per cent, 76 per cent and 50.5 per cent, respectively, compared to the previous week.

The sales of snacks also went up by 31.7 per cent week-over-week, with most shoppers placing rapid delivery orders during key breaks during games.
Rachel Eyre, chief customer officer at Asda, said: “With record-breaking temperatures this summer and plenty of talk about ‘hydration breaks’, we’re seeing customers respond to both the heat and late-night fixtures by making the most of our extended delivery hours.
“They’re stocking up on great-value seasonal and matchday essentials, delivered quickly, when they need them most.”
These new figures come as the retailer has expanded its grocery delivery partnership with Deliveroo by adding over 300 supermarkets to the platform.
Additionally, Asda extended its delivery hours to meet the customers’ demand during the summer, as many matches start late into the evening.
