Princes Group is expanding its portfolio with the launch of two new premium tuna products which will roll out across Tesco from 4 May.

The brand has unveiled the Select MSC Yellowfin Tuna Steak, which includes two variants, Olive Oil with Lemon and Olive Oil with Sweet Chilli, for £2.75 each.

Princes created the first ambient option for the yellowfin tuna, which is usually served fresh, which aims to attract a new wave of shoppers.

The can has an MSC blue ecolabel to assure shoppers that the tuna they are buying has been responsibly sourced.

Jeremy Gibson, marketing director at Princes, said: “The launch of the Ocean Select range is a direct response to consumers seeking delicious, high-quality food that feels luxurious but is affordable.

“There has been a major shift in home cooking, where shoppers are looking for inspiring and sustainable ingredients, experimenting with flavours and taste.

“We are seeing tuna featured in a growing number of meals, from salads & pasta, to sandwiches, to jacket potatoes and more. This is an exciting step for Princes, as we continue to innovate and expand our ambient fish portfolio.”

The brand is the first in the UK to fully transition to sourcing 100 per cent MSC-certified fisheries, as it aims to support global conservation goals and respond to growing consumer demand for sustainably sourced seafood.

The MSC certification is a label which ensures eco-friendly practices when sourcing fish stock and aims to protect marine ecosystems among fishing communities.
