Global food manufacturer Princes Group has announced that it has achieved its 2025 commitment to source 100 per cent of its branded tuna from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified fisheries.

The MSC Standard is an industry-wide benchmark for sustainable fishing, which recognises maintaining healthy fishing populations and minimising environmental impact.

This marks a significant step in Princes’ push towards sustainability and responsible sourcing within its supply chain.

The brand’s MSC-certified tuna products are now on shelves at major UK retail and foodservice channels.

Princes has completed its transition for tuna sourcing to MSC-certified fisheries to support global conservation goals while meeting growing consumer demand for sustainable seafood.

David McDiarmid, corporate relations director at Princes Group, said: “This commitment is the culmination of a 10-year journey of fishery improvements.

“Reaching 100% MSC-certified tuna demonstrates the progress we have made alongside our partners and reinforces our belief in the MSC Standard, and its global recognition is critical in driving progress in sustainable fishing.”

Apart from the tuna range, the business aims to apply the same responsible sourcing principles across the wider seafood range, which involves prioritising certified sustainable fisheries.

George Clark, programme director, UK & Ireland, at the Marine Stewardship Council, said: “Achieving 100% MSC-certified sustainable tuna on their products is a clear demonstration of Princes’ leadership and commitment to keeping our oceans teaming with life.”
