Chipotle opens first UK food court site as it expands London footprint
Chipotle is set to open its first UK food court restaurant this week, with a new site at Westfield Stratford City marking the latest step in the fast-casual chain’s expansion across the market.
The restaurant opens on 10 April and will be Chipotle’s 21st location in the UK. It is also a notable format move for the brand, which is pushing further into high-footfall retail destinations as it looks to broaden its reach beyond traditional high street and standalone locations.
Located on the lower ground floor food court at Westfield Stratford City, the opening gives Chipotle a presence in one of London’s busiest shopping and transport hubs, offering access to a mix of shoppers, commuters and office workers.
The launch also pushes the brand further east in the capital and suggests Chipotle sees continued room for growth in heavily trafficked urban catchments, particularly where convenience and visibility are likely to drive trial.
The Stratford restaurant will also join the growing number of Chipotle UK sites offering halal-suitable Adobo Chicken, with nearly half of the chain’s UK estate now carrying the option.
To mark the opening, the first 100 customers buying a main meal on launch day will receive a free side of guacamole. The first 100 people in line will also be given complimentary Chipotle merchandise.
The new site is expected to create 30 jobs locally.
Anat Davidzon, managing director, international at Chipotle, said Westfield Stratford City was an “ideal location” for the brand given its volume of footfall and the opportunity to serve customers in a more convenient setting.
